As I was scrolling down and reading, I only saw the top part of your new sewing machine, but I thought, "no way. She plays video games?" I guess those machines have come a long way since I last touched on in 1983.

I hope your surgery goes well and you're out walking again.

Blessings and peace to you as you approach this surgery. Wishing you a good recovery so you can be back at your creative endeavors. I’m so glad to hear from you, and from Portugal I also worry about our world. But at this moment wishing the best and hoping to read your posts when you’re able.

I'm sorry to hear about your hip. I really must get going to the dr about my knees, as they are wearing out, too. It's a good thing you are no longer on the road, as this hip replacement would probably lead to having to give up that lifestyle quickly. As it is, you've had time to settle and make the connections that will help this go smoothly. Take care.

Thanks, Tricia! Everyone tells me knees are harder than hips to rehab after replacement, but my brother had zero issues and was out and about normally by six weeks! I do miss my little Alto sometimes, but you're right, settled in one place, it's much easier to deal with medical issues. And Lancaster has great medical services, which I'm appreciating a lot right now.

I have all my original body parts albeit with some changes. My hair is now white and I remind myself that I am fortunate to have hair! I am shorter than I was perhaps 5-6 years ago - weigh the same but now I need to turn up the bottom of my long pants but the waist is now very tight. Fortunately I have several pair of LLBean long pants and shorts the have adjustable waists. My tee shirt collection is wearing out and when I buy new ones - a Medium instead of a small. I cannot run but I need new "running shoes" as the bottoms of my "running shoes" is now very smooth - not great on sidewalks that are wet. I am wearing out my sheets - single bed -fitted bottoms - elastic is going and some of the top. sheets are worn out. These are sheets that I b ought probably 30 years ago. LLBean sheets are expensive but worth the price - if one has t o replace them after 30 years! I am replacing towels that a daughter-in-law gave me 40+ years ago. While I do not like the color - they are very soft - and the new towels bought to re place these old one - just so not absorb. waler. I doubt that I will be around in 30 years - if I am I would be 120 - yikes what a thought. And my macbook - that I am using to write this -is trying to fail - body parts, clothing, and bedding last - but not electronics - cannot win them all.

Every time they measure me at the doctor, I swear I lose a 1/4 or so, I'm 1.5 inches shorter than I was 20 years ago! But, I may get even shorter, as the surgery will probably take care of the leg length differential that plagued my running career, they can adjust it so I'm asking the surgeon to make my legs the same length!

I'm going the other way with t-shirts, from XL to L and now some M, as I lose weight slowly, the old-fashioned way, not the GPL-1 way :-) It definitely will make rehab easier, not lugging around those extra pounds. My nephew and I have a hiking vacation planned for Scotland in late September, so my goal is to be back at hiking strength (5 miles at a shot) by then.

OMG, your new sewing machine looks like it's running Windows 11.

Maintaing this human machine seems to take more and more of my waking hours.

Your quilts are intricate and beautiful. Methinks you could easily supplement your income with them.

Nomadic Life Scribbles's avatar

Ah, I do quilts for the love of it, and then I just have to figure out who gets each one as I'm making it :-) As for this human machine, I hope this is the biggest medical thing I have in 2026, fingers crossed.

Yeah, Paul's facing cataract/glaucoma surgery this month. I've got shockwave lithotripsy (kidney stones) procedure next month. We are both crossing our fingers that these are one-offs and we start traveling when we heal.

Best wishes with our evolving bingo card. It sounds like you’re experiencing the best and worst of America.

Best of luck with your hip journey Annie...and the quilts are beautiful! Please post when they are finished!

I will, Gaye! Thanks for the wishes, I feel like I can use all the moral support I can get. Hope all is well with you and you're in someplace wonderful, exploring!

Wow! Adventures await. Love the quilt patterns… if your hip thing works as well as my eye thing (cataract surgery) all will be well. Hugs & hope from here
